When I was uploading this picture, a song was playing on Pandora that had these lyrics. I thought it fit in a strange way to epitomize not just the building, but how the old part of my neighborhood is surviving through the current onslaught of gentrification.

We attended a disappointing event at Phipps called Garden Groove, which had too many drink tickets and not enough food. Several old ladies were heard to exclaim that they were unable to use all of their drink tickets on an empty stomach and still be expected to arrive safely home. Not sure if that meant that they were going to get wild and run amok in Oakland before getting picked up by the police, or if they were simply going to find a warm spot, like the desert room, and curl up for a drunken slumber.

Either way, I did manage to get a handful of reasonably nice pictures before the event ended and the elderly set got out of control.
