(pun intended..they are called jumpers right? that might be a british thing..)

yet another knitted creation..
this one was ordered by a guy in the states, as a gift for his wife, (my last 4 sweater orders have been from men wanting to surprise their wives/girlfriends, which i think is incredibly cute), the flared sleeves were a detail he asked for specifically, (they flare evenly from the elbow, not just at the front, it sortof looks that way in the pic) hadn't tried that before, rather like how it turned out..

btw, i'm getting a LOT of mails asking about these sweaters, so if you've sent me a request, be patient if i don't get back to you right away.. i am doing my best to get back to everyone, i'm just a terribly unorganized individual with too little time on her hands ;)

for those who came in late.. I've turned into a knitting fanatic, and have been making/selling sweaters this summer, (i'm still taking orders, but there's a waiting list) and am slowly getting around to taking pictures of all my knitted stuff, cause each one is dear to me, after all the work put in. Made this one for myself in february (i think), finally got around to snapping a photo of it on the way back home from my trip last week.. after a night of sleeping only 2 hours, in the car, my face refused to take part in this photoshoot. Taken the same morning as the horse-meets-bear photo, which i think was enough originality to expect from my brain for one day..

cheer up, mr. bear

cheer up, mr. bear

some ideas just get stuck up there in that strange brain of mine, and won't leave me alone until i make them real..

watching the horse inspect the bear was wonderful.. he was the only one brave enough to come take a look, the rest of the group all fled when i climbed over the fence and plonked mr. bear down in the field. Once he'd sniffed the bears toes and ears a bit, he stared butting its nose wiith his own, watching the bear nod its head, repeating the process several times.. i almost regretted having to take the bear away again.. the horse followed me to the fence and stared nibbling on my sleeves while i was clambering over, clearly not wanting me to leave yet. This was one of those moments i wished someone had been there with a video cam. :)

the definition of “dishevelled”

the definition of "dishevelled"

another photo for my steadily growing "prjonadót" set. (that is quite possibly the least useful icelandic word you could learn, and means "knitted stuff") There will be still more soon, so just look the other way if you happen to be bored to tears with my knitting fanaticism.
this is one i made for myself, made a similar one (turtleneck with thumbholes) for my friend Rut (r.ing) earlier this year, those of you who follow her page may have seen one or two of her wearing it)

the title referrs to my hair.. i'm dubbing this particular style "modern icelandic fucked-up".. there's a braid hidden in there somewhere.. for some reason it gets like this on road trips.. and this was BEFORE i spent the night in the car.
well, half the night anyway, had to wake up again at 2 in order to reach where i was going at an ungodly hour so nobody else would be lurking around. (see previous photo)

fancy a swim?

fancy a swim?

while few beaches in iceland are known to be good for swimming and other beach-related activities, few are quite this extreme in their chilliness. This is taken around 5 am this morning (saturday aug. 9th) across the road from Jökulsárlón. (went off on a short photo trip by myself, can't let a summer pass without taking one trip out here) This is where the broken glacier bits wash out into the sea. Very special place.

(the surf was a bit too rowdy for me to be able to set the tripod up for a really long exposure, plus the ice was moving around a bit and would've been blurred anyway)

reposted, i deleted it the other day, didn't like where the comment thread was going and was in a bad mood at the time.

if anyone else finds a need to complain about me posting photos once in a while that are not trying to be masterpieces, but simply photos, that i feel like sharing for whatever reason (in this case, to showcase my knitted creations), please just leave it and go look at something else instead, the internet is vast.

this is my cousin Berglind and her husband, they got married yesterday, i took a few photos.

I decided to use this occasion to upload a whole bunch of photos on my blog from this and two other wedding photoshoots i did last year, that i've never put on flickr or my website. take a peek if you're interested

another shot from the night back in June when i wandered into the nesting area of some arctic terns, probably the least friendly birds you're apt to run into here in iceland. Known to attack anything, regardless of size, that attempts to get close to their eggs and/or young. Gotta admire them for that.

(this is taken w a 100mm lens, the bird was (roughly estimating) about 2 meters above my head)

the trick is to tie their tails together..

no.. what i really did was put magnets on their butts, and made them all stand in front of a metal filing cabinet..

ok ok, i'll stop...

took my sons on an overnight trip to Snæfellsnes last week, where we spotted these cows, late in the evening near a place called Hellnar.. which i actually recommend visiting, because there's this really cool cave-like area near the sea there, where you can get really close to the nesting area of some large white birds, and get a cup of overpriced but tasty cocoa along with some overpriced but tasty cake, (or even an overpriced beer, if you're not driving) at this cozy cafe overlooking the ocean.. I mean, if you've payed the overpriced flight to Iceland in the first place, and you happen to be in the general area, it's definitely worth a visit ;)

another waterfall shot from my trip up north last week..
this one is far easier to reach, and the picture is taken at the far more ordinary hour of noon (as opposed to the one of dettifoss) , but i like it nonetheless.

From my visit to North-East Iceland last week (i live in southwest iceland). This is the largest, most powerful and vertigo-inducing waterfall in Iceland. (think its the most powerful in all of Europe actually)

Hard to reach, especially from this side (i've been here 3 times before, always viewed it from the other, rockier side.. my last visit was 8 years ago, before i got into photography) The road is awful, very narrow and your car may or may not survive the trip without small bits falling off.. But its worth it. So much raw energy here. I tried lying on the ground near the edge, and it's like being on top of a huge rumbling engine. Very cool.
I also discovered that 2 a.m. is a good time to visit if you want the place to yourself ;)

Bye for now ;)

Ann was the first person here on flickr to buy one of these from me, and for that i thank her. very fun and challenging to design a sweater for someone i've never met (and extremely rewarding to learn that she's happy with it and that it fits!)

so, altho i've mentioned it before, i'll mention it again, i am currently taking orders for these custom made icelandic wool sweaters.. lemme know if you want one.

never expected to get such a shot, much less a whole series. Taken with a 100mm lens at f 2.0 (manual focus!), the birds were maybe 2 meters above my head, in attack mode (my friend and i wandered into their nesting area by mistake)

taken at 2:45 this morning (sunday june 15th) , while normal people were out partying, or just sleeping..

(i collected those rocks months ago btw, brought them home, sprayed them blue, and then had no idea what i was going to use them for, until now.. did i ever mention i'm a little bit weird?)

decided to spend the night driving around with my camera instead of sleeping last night. . this was just before 6 am, on the way home..

i've been terribly lazy at uploading lately, haven't really been taking a lot of photos, as nearly every waking minute is spent knitting sweater after sweater, which is as close to a "job" as i have this summer..

i do have an idea or two that i'm going to try and get done in the next few days, so i'll have something new to post here..

second frame:
"uh.. that's hardly a picture worthy of hanging.."
"sure it is"
third frame:
"you're too wierd"
"aww.. you're cute when you're annoyed"

lots of deep meaning in this one. Nearly impossible to explain tho, so i'll leave it without a title, altho several have come to mind.
made this for a course i'm in at school, where we've been studying religious themes in art, and were asked to create one photo/painting/drawing which in some way relates to the bible (or in my case) in some way expresses our feelings about christianity/religion in general. (my feelings about this subject are complicated, needless to say) anyway, the pictures will be displayed for about one month in Hallgrímskirkja (the church that seemingly all tourists who come to iceland visit at some point) , starting may 10th. This looks way better in print btw. i recommend checking out this little exhibition.
this image had been in my head for months, and when i stopped to think about it, i found it perfect for this assignment (but nearly impossible to put into words why)

and this isn't as photoshopped as it may appear, i painted myself white, hair and skin, and the branch is held by my teeth alone. yummy.

A classmate of mine brought her unbearably beautiful son with her to school yesterday, There he was, hanging out in this sling-type carrier thing on his mom, looking like that.. i simply could not resist.
taken with a 24-70mm f 2.8 lens i'm borrowing from a friend for a few days, and liking altogether too much (since i cant really afford to go buy one, but am sorely tempted nonetheless)

arg. this picture makes me regret not having had a 5D and the skills to use it when my own boys were all tiny like that. Sigh :)

(on the way back from Gullfoss, Rut and i spotted 3 pregnant horses lying in a field.. fast asleep, the jolly one to the far right with her tongue lolling out and looking more than a little comical.. I braked violently and backed the car up, envisioning myself silently climbing over the fence and sneaking up to them, getting some much needed sleeping-horse-with-tongue-sticking-out pics into my horse photo collection, but while i was trying to decide wether to switch lenses, they all woke up and came strolling over.. (Rut did manage to snap at least one before they woke up tho)
Still sleepy, the white one yawned constantly, making for quite a series..

ok.. so this is another one of the pictures that i first showed at my exhibition in jan/feb. i uploaded an outtake from this shoot last christmas, (taken dec. 21st) , this one is a lot closer to what i was trying to capture however, completely forgot to upload it ..

what i had in mind here was the idea of literally visualizing some phrases.. i started with excercise in futilty and then did this one, then somehow didnt get around to doing more.. was supposed to be a whole glorious series.. maybe i'll pick up the thread where i left off here (pun totally intended) later on, when i have more time..

btw, going on a road trip tomorrow with a special guest model, i'm sure something interesting will come out of that;)

oh, and i see they've started allowing video uploads here. Cool. That way i can share the cartoon i'm making here on flickr when im done with it.. whenever THAT will be..

This is my friend Ólí's dog Sámur, Óli and his brother Nonni let me tag along yesterday on a 20 km hike, (along a route called Selvogsgata) which was a pretty wonderful experience .. I'm totally gonna start hiking more.. my calves and butt are loving me today..
this dog was the most photographed member of the trip for some reason..

btw, i've been away from here for an unusually long period, as someone may or may not have noticed.. photography has been forced to take a back seat to some other projects.. among them a cartoon i'm painstakingly hand-drawing... I've done some animation before (click here if you haven't seen it, it's pretty cool ) so this may turn out interesting..
no worries tho, i'm not about to stop taking pictures, just taking a li'l break.
