What are you doing down there, Sol?

Caitlin's got the most beautiful legs. The best angle to capture them from is low looking upworrds. The destorted exageration of an ultra wide angle lens helps to make those legs longer and more attractive. But the same lens when used differently can also have a stylized humorous effect when used for that purpose. This is one of the tools a photographer can use in communicating his message through images. Communicators of all kinds use skills that shape our minds and persuade. Sometimes selling ideologies and other times products. The written word, the short documentary film, a painting, a song – all work towards attempting persuasion. The persuadors are awfully skilled in their craft. Very convincing in their message. We see this in polititions. They can get an entire nation to rally around them. For God and country. Something to think about.
I have recently seen the documentary ZEITGEIST - The Movie. If you are a free thinker, it is worth a look.
Elise With Art
July 20, 2008
Sol Lang posted a photo:
Mood and attitude are the two components that I try to convey with each image. In this image I have well achieved both. I especially am happy with the background which is an art piece created by my wife and artist Mary Bogdan. It is called "Playing Battle Dress Up." I don't want to take away any attention from Elise, but the art behind her is one of Mary's most controversial pieces amongst many. Elise certainly makes us want to take a closer look.

A pregnant Rose
July 13, 2008
Sol Lang posted a photo:
Somewhere in time we came to learn the visual iconography and meaning of pregnancy. It is an image that we have come to know and that has become very much a part of our visual language. It expresses femininity in a different and tender way. Beyond raw erotica, a pregnant woman, although still looking very attractive, possibly even considered sexy by some, evokes tenderness and emotion that, like art itself, is representative of creation and all manner of Godliness. Womankind, Eve, Sarah, Mary, all have been represented in art as the matriarchs of our (western) civilization. I take no credit for creating, but rather being the conduit, the messenger, so-to-speak, of these understandings, through my photographic art. I am only responsible for having well observed the art that has passed before me. Having developed an aesthetic that is learned and eventually mimicked by me in the creation of my “original” imagery.

Milena’s Studio Visit
June 14, 2008
Sol Lang posted a photo:
It’s all starting to feel a bit too much. Flickr, Ipernity, Zivity, Facebook, my blog, my website, YouTube, DailyMotion… where, when will it end? The Internet is such an avalanche of information constantly coming at me and at the same time always beckoning for more content. As a content provider, I have been working hard to create images with praise as the only reward. God knows I have been getting a whole lot of that. More than I have ever imagined that I would. But I have grown tired. The rewards are fulfilling, emotionally, but as an artist, I find that I need greater validation. Perhaps financial reward, of which I see very little through this venue. Thank God for the graphic design career. It is what provides for sustenance. But I also feel responsibility to express myself and to put out a message that I feel is needed in this world of ours. To offer yet another voice that speaks to the conscience of humanity. To strive for the betterment of all. I believe this is the primary responsibility of the artist of today. So I go on to produce and present and exhibit.

Progression – Elise
June 8, 2008
Sol Lang posted a photo:
When writing about my photographs I often weave in and out between writing about my model specifically, women in general and my own point of view of women or my photography as the art form that I have chosen to portray my subjects in. One thing is usually obvious to most who view these photographs. And that is that I bestow the ultimate respect upon the women who have entrusted me with their vulnerability of nude or smi-nude posing. They have exposed themselves to my lens and have offered their ultimate expression of erotica. The intended pose as well as the resulting photograph, both are with an end to provoke and arouse the imagination of the viewer. Elise and I both hope that we have done justice to this mission.

Not What I Expected
May 19, 2008
Sol Lang posted a photo:
When I first set out to work on this image it wasn't at all what I thought I would get. As it was during a session with Kelli, there were quite a few images for me to choose from. But somehow this particular pose, with her legs this way, sitting on an office desk, excited my visual sense of erotica. Of course, as a male photographer, I see an erotic angle to every female physical gesture, but this was special and especially a pose attributable to Kelli, my model.
Maybe one day I will show another image taken during this shooting session, where we see Kelli in her entirety. But I am still working on those images and it may take some time before I resolve them visually.

Undressing for the artist is very acceptable behaviour
May 1, 2008
Sol Lang posted a photo:
So many behaviours seen daily appear completely acceptable. We as humans have developed a series of what we call "normal" beahviours just because we see them again and again. Can you site something that appears normal, perfectly acceptable and yet with a little bit of thought, realising that it is in fact totally ludicrous? War, patriotism, religion, are just some that come to mind.
