lots of deep meaning in this one. Nearly impossible to explain tho, so i'll leave it without a title, altho several have come to mind.
made this for a course i'm in at school, where we've been studying religious themes in art, and were asked to create one photo/painting/drawing which in some way relates to the bible (or in my case) in some way expresses our feelings about christianity/religion in general. (my feelings about this subject are complicated, needless to say) anyway, the pictures will be displayed for about one month in Hallgrímskirkja (the church that seemingly all tourists who come to iceland visit at some point) , starting may 10th. This looks way better in print btw. i recommend checking out this little exhibition.
this image had been in my head for months, and when i stopped to think about it, i found it perfect for this assignment (but nearly impossible to put into words why)

and this isn't as photoshopped as it may appear, i painted myself white, hair and skin, and the branch is held by my teeth alone. yummy.

A classmate of mine brought her unbearably beautiful son with her to school yesterday, There he was, hanging out in this sling-type carrier thing on his mom, looking like that.. i simply could not resist.
taken with a 24-70mm f 2.8 lens i'm borrowing from a friend for a few days, and liking altogether too much (since i cant really afford to go buy one, but am sorely tempted nonetheless)

arg. this picture makes me regret not having had a 5D and the skills to use it when my own boys were all tiny like that. Sigh :)

(on the way back from Gullfoss, Rut and i spotted 3 pregnant horses lying in a field.. fast asleep, the jolly one to the far right with her tongue lolling out and looking more than a little comical.. I braked violently and backed the car up, envisioning myself silently climbing over the fence and sneaking up to them, getting some much needed sleeping-horse-with-tongue-sticking-out pics into my horse photo collection, but while i was trying to decide wether to switch lenses, they all woke up and came strolling over.. (Rut did manage to snap at least one before they woke up tho)
Still sleepy, the white one yawned constantly, making for quite a series..

ok.. so this is another one of the pictures that i first showed at my exhibition in jan/feb. i uploaded an outtake from this shoot last christmas, (taken dec. 21st) , this one is a lot closer to what i was trying to capture however, completely forgot to upload it ..

what i had in mind here was the idea of literally visualizing some phrases.. i started with excercise in futilty and then did this one, then somehow didnt get around to doing more.. was supposed to be a whole glorious series.. maybe i'll pick up the thread where i left off here (pun totally intended) later on, when i have more time..

btw, going on a road trip tomorrow with a special guest model, i'm sure something interesting will come out of that;)

oh, and i see they've started allowing video uploads here. Cool. That way i can share the cartoon i'm making here on flickr when im done with it.. whenever THAT will be..

This is my friend Ólí's dog Sámur, Óli and his brother Nonni let me tag along yesterday on a 20 km hike, (along a route called Selvogsgata) which was a pretty wonderful experience .. I'm totally gonna start hiking more.. my calves and butt are loving me today..

btw, i've been away from here for an unusually long period, as someone may or may not have noticed.. photography has been forced to take a back seat to some other projects.. among them a cartoon i'm painstakingly hand-drawing... I've done some animation before (click here if you haven't seen it, it's pretty cool ) so this may turn out interesting..
no worries tho, i'm not about to stop taking pictures, just taking a li'l break.

i had the pleasure of having an excuse to drive out of town last wednesday, to photograph Hotel Búðir on Snæfellsnes, came across these guys in Hvalfjörður. They were surprisingly cooperative when i told them to line up to get that diminishing effect... for more depth, you know.. Despite the freezing wind, and their first inclination to eat my jacket... Gotta love em.

as i mentioned (in icelandic) under the last photo uploaded, im currently "collecting models" here in iceland for an as-of-yet not-quite-organized portrait project, i've gotten a great response so far, i can still add several more to my list. This is something i'll be starting on about 2 weeks from now, and hopefully continuing with in the next several months, and will hopefully yield some interesting material:)
so again , if you're interested in modelling in return for photos, send a mail to rbekka@gmail.com and i'll get back to you as soon as possible.

my good friend Ragnar, who says i'm not producing enough new stuff these days. and he's quite right. This is not something im all to happy about, but i'll be back in my creative mode soon enough. For now im thinking a lot and collecting ideas. (and knitting sweaters like mad)

ok friends and neighbors, what we have here is a screenshot i just grabbed off iStockphoto (as should be pretty visible), where i have never uploaded a single photo for sale.

So, what's wrong with this picture?

I thought i'd bring this to light as a warning and wake up call to folks. I'm not putting the blame with iStockphoto per se, but still, this is a problem that is becoming increasingly annoying, for everyone that uses the internet to showcase work. I mean for crying out loud, out of 31 images this particular user has on his "porfolio" , 25 of them are mine, and at least 3 are of me..

I have contacted a copyright lawyer about this, and will be doing what i can to tackle this problem in the best way possible, (please, nobody start sending any angry letters or anything of that sort, this needs to be dealt with in a level-headed way)
but i wanted to tell people about this as well, because this is always happening, and your photos could be on there illegally as well. You never know.

i guess i'll start with "happy new year!" seeing as my last upload was christmas day.
I realized this evening that i've missed going out in snow and doing long exposures, and i've missed sharing the results on here.

For those interested (and either already in Iceland, or planning on coming here soon) , i'm opening a rather large exhibition this saturday, january 19th, in Norræna Húsið, ends february 10th.
(not surprisingly, getting this organized has been more than a little work, which is why i disappeared from flickr for a while)

(this is an outtake from photoshoot which is mostly to blame for the fact that im suffering from a bad cold on christmas eve.. not the smartest thing to do on dec 21st in iceland, but i had a picture to make and the weather happened to be suitable then. (not raining for several hours, and not freezing, so the ground was diggable) There's another one which is more the photo i set out to make, and will be used in the exhibit i've been hinting at recently.. this one seemed like a cool one to use as a myspace picture, so i thought i might as well have it here as well, because ive been suffering from flickr withdrawal symptoms.

ANYhoo, for people out there that for some reason are bored or happen to enjoy reading stuff, i just put up part two of a writing project i started on earlier this year, and decided to share on my blog because i'm such a show'n'tell sortof person.. here's part one, if anyone is bored enough to read that as well.

oh, and Merry Christmas, for those of you out there celebrating the holiday. To others, Happy Tuesday, and be nice to one another not because it happens to be december 25th, but because its the right thing to do, and would make the world a better place if people just did it all the time.

like i mentioned in the caption under my last upload, im busy working on a number of things right now, creating new material for my upcoming exhibit in january among other things (that im not making public yet), so my flickr updates have been few and far between, but i've been updating my blog more regularly these days, for what its worth..

ok... so i made this rather playful photo way back in june, some people may already have seen it on my myspace... i was never quite happy with it and planned to re-do it sometime.. thing is, i honestly dont feel like it.. this was hard enough to do the first time:p
sure, it could be better, the me's holding the rope look a little less animated than i would have liked, but hell with it, i might as well share it, less than perfect tho it is.

(even tho i havent uploaded anything new in ages, i have in fact been working hard on a number of projects, i simply cant show off the results here on flickr just yet... saving up some images for my upcoming exhibition in january, i figure it'll be cool to have some previously unseen material to display there.. )

my older boy overlooking the breathtaking scenery yesterday on our way up to Djúpavatn lake for some fresh air. Winter seems to have arrived, and after all the rain we've had this fall, i must say its a blessing to get some snow instead:)

This winter and next spring, thanks to Iceland Express, i'll have an extra incentive to continue with my landscape photography. Finally someone in iceland caught on to the fact that i just MIGHT be doing the travel industry in iceland a favor by posting all these photos of the scenery here. I've made a partnership with the airline company (starting in January, details will become clearer then) that should turn out to be very beneficial to both parties involved.
Me, I'm delighted to have all the more reason to continue driving around my beautiful country and sharing what i see with others:)

come to think of it, i have en extra incentive to do more conceptual stuff as well, as my first gallery exhibit is coming up in january, and i plan on making some new material for that along with some of my older stuff..

UK dubstep producer & dj, and one half of Digital Mystikz, (He was in Iceland to play at the Airwaves festival last Wednesday, along with sgt Pokes)

Having had a passion for dubstep for nearly 2 years, getting a chance to hang out with these guys pretty much made my month:)

and um.. if you've never heard of dubstep, you're missing out..
